The Siemens Multistix SG reagent strip is a frontline test for the detection of a broad range of conditions, and can reliably detect urinary tract infections (UTIs), diabetes and kidney disorders. This can be a game changer when you’re struggling with poor health and need to find out more so that you can receive the correct treatment, these tests will be used by your healthcare providers throughout your pregnancy healthcare and in routine appointments.

UTIs can be extremely painful and can lead to complications if not treated quickly, so it is important to perform regular testing if you are working with people who are at risk, prone to UTIs or in care situations. Older people and those who are pregnant may be more likely to develop a UTI and it is particularly important to be vigilant with this group. This is part of routine safeguarding and reliable tests can help to put your mind at ease.

Being aware of the symptoms of UTIs can help to prevent them from causing further problems. UTIs cause symptoms that include pain or a burning sensation when urinating, frequent or urgent urination, cloudy or bloody urine, pelvic pain fever and/or chills. If you are feeling generally unwell and have a fever, it is possible that the infection may already have spread to your kidneys and you should seek medical advice as soon as possible.

UTIs are generally treated with antibiotics, and you may also decide to use painkillers to relieve your discomfort. Alternatively, you can prevent a UTI from developing or treat it in the early stages by drinking plenty of water to flush bacteria from the urinary tract and avoiding anything that could irritate the bladder, such as alcohol, caffeine and spicy foods. Trying to urinate regularly can prevent the build-up of bacteria and probiotics may be taken as a lifestyle choice to promote a healthy balance of bacteria in the gut and the urinary tract.
